Anna Kohoot
MSW, RSW
Hello, and welcome!
I’m Anna, a Registered Clinical Social Worker with over 19 years of experience supporting individuals and families through some of life’s more challenging seasons.
I hold a Master of Social Work and a Bachelor of Social Work from Dalhousie University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Saint Mary’s University. Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work across a variety of clinical and community settings, supporting youth, adults of all ages and families through a wide range of life experiences and challenges. My professional experience includes mental health, geriatric social work, palliative and cancer care, and reproductive options counselling.
I also bring experience working in school settings, supporting students as they navigate anxiety, school attendance challenges, emotional regulation, friendships, boundary setting, and life transitions. I work collaboratively with young people to help them better understand their emotions, develop practical coping strategies, build healthy relationships, and strengthen their confidence and resilience as they navigate life’s challenges.
This experience has given me a strong understanding of how overwhelming it can be to navigate healthcare systems, schools, relationships, parenting, and community resources- particularly when you’re already feeling stretched. I can help you make sense of what’s happening, identify what you need, and find practical ways forward.
Most importantly, I believe therapy starts with the relationship. Reaching out for support can feel vulnerable, and I want my clients to feel heard, respected, and genuinely understood. I take a collaborative, compassionate, and non-judgmental approach, meeting you where you are and working alongside you to identify what will be most helpful.
My practice draws from a range of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. I work from a trauma-informed perspective and tailor my approach to the person in front of me rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. I’m also a lifelong learner and value continuing education so that I can continue to grow alongside the people I support.
I work with adults and youth ages 12+ experiencing a variety of concerns, including anxiety, emotion regulation, self-esteem, relationship challenges, life transitions, parenting challenges, caregiver burnout, workplace and school stress, chronic and acute health concerns and grief and loss.
Whether you’re navigating a difficult transition, feeling stuck, or simply know that something needs to change, you don’t have to figure it all out on your own. I’d be honoured to meet you, hear your story, and work alongside you as you find your way forward.
